The power of typography in graphic design
Typography is an art technique making language more visible. Typography is used extensively in graphic design, web design, logo design and advertising. The use of typography involves typefaces, point size, line length and adjusting the space between lines, words and letters.
Both digital designers and print designers use typography in their designs to interesting effect. With a little bit of imagination and design expertise, a web or graphic designer creates a dialogue between words and images re-inforcing the marketing message. Small amounts of text, or even letters on their own, have the power to attract attention or strengthen the emotion of the designs. For example, classical fonts will give the design a strong personality whereas bold fonts are used to draw attention and are useful for making statements.
The designer also needs to consider the colour and size of the fonts and even the amount of space between the different lines in the text. With a good combination of all these elements a web or graphic designer can highlight a particular area of an advertisement or draw attention to the advertisement when it has to compete with others.
Today, typography is used in all different kinds of advertising all over the world.
